Bayankhongor, Here We Are!

We're mostly moved in and have some great stories to pass along as soon as we get an internet connection established. Nathan has internet at work, but it's dial-up and pay by the minute. Our next door neighbor in our building is a local NGO and they have agreed to let us use the internet, but they run regular business hours, so it's not real convenient. Next on our agenda is to run a network cable from their place to ours or procure a wireless router. If we do that, it's free access to the web.

Otherwise, all is well. We're enjoying our co-workers our jobs and the other volunteers. And we bought a washing machine yesterday!

We'll send out our address by email to as many people as we can.

To contact us by phone, Leslie sent out our phone numbers last week or so to our parents and some friends. It doesn't cost us anything to receive a call. We're 12 hours ahead.

To call through skype, we heard it was $.02/min and we heard $.20/min. Either way it's got to be cheaper than the phone, but sometimes it doesn't quite connect correctly. Keep trying.

Peace (Corps) from beautiful Bayankhongor.

You are right 20 cents for Skype. 15 cents for yahoo phone.

Hey guys! I just caught up on about 4 posts... congrats on all that you've done!

This summer I was A-D-D-I-C-T-E-D, addicted, to the Olympics. I was watching thinking, "Nate and Leslie are soooooooo close to China!" And I was thinking of you guys again when Mongolia won its first gold medal.

Was there much reaction to that, that you could tell? Was there any buzz about the Olympics in general?

Just wondering, cause, again, I was addicted. I'm suffering separation anxiety from them being over. :-P

Cat,
The Olympics were HUGE here! Especially after the first gold medal! Once they won a second gold medal the whole country exploded. There were about 3 days where you LITERALLY (and I mean that by the definition of the word. I'm not exaggerating) was NOTHING else on tv but a montage of the 4 medal winning events underscored by a song that translates to "it's hard to be a winner." It was amazing! We were out at dinner in the second largest city in the country when they got the first gold! It was really powerful!

John,
Wish we could have been there too! We miss you guys a lot! Hope everything is going well with the new home!

BIG HUGS,
Leslie
